چکیده

Background. Because acute exercise increases systemic catecholamines, we sought to determine whether exercise training would alter daily or exercise-related catecholamine release and inactivation. Methods and Results. In 24-hour urine collections, catecholamines and metabolites provided indexes of overall oxidative deamination, sulfation, and O-methylation. Plasma catecholamines, the sulfoconjugates of each, and chromogranin-A were determined at rest and during exercise in 10 well-trained male subjects and nine minimally trained male subjects (maximal

The Early Endocrine Stress Response in Experimental Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

INTRODUCTION In patients with severe illness, such as aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a physiologic stress response is triggered. This includes activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the sympathetic nervous system. The aim of this study was to investigate the very early responses of these systems. METHODS A porcine animal model of aneurysmal SAH was used. In...

Plasma chromogranin A. Initial studies in human hypertension.

Chromogranin A is the major catecholamine storage vesicle soluble protein costored and coreleased by exocytosis with catecholamines. Immunoreactive chromogranin A circulates in human plasma, where it may reflect changes in exocytotic sympathoadrenal activity. We measured plasma chromogranin A concentration in normotensive control subjects as well as in untreated essential (primary) hypertensive...

Chromogranin A Regulation of Obesity and Peripheral Insulin Sensitivity

Chromogranin A (CgA) is a prohormone and granulogenic factor in endocrine and neuroendocrine tissues, as well as in neurons, and has a regulated secretory pathway. The intracellular functions of CgA include the initiation and regulation of dense-core granule biogenesis and sequestration of hormones in neuroendocrine cells. This protein is co-stored and co-released with secreted hormones. The ex...

Catecholamine release from bovine adrenal chromaffin cells during anoxia or metabolic inhibition.

A significant release of catecholamines within the heart has been observed during myocardial ischemia. Because this can be markedly inhibited by amine-uptake-blocking agents, it has been suggested that its mechanism is a carrier-mediated efflux from neurons, which is not operative under normal conditions. The present work examined this release process in chromaffin cells isolated from the bovin...
